Victoria Basile

I am a Clinical Psychologist passionate about working with anxiety and trauma with individuals and families. I completed my clinical training at The University of Sydney and have previously completed degrees in Medical Science and Public Health.

In the Beginning

I have always been interested in the big philosophical questions about life and how to live. Initially, I studied medical science and public health, as I was interested in the healthcare system and what motivated individuals to engage in healthy behaviours.

My experiences providing emotional support for people in mental health crises, living with HIV and homelessness, led me to a career in psychology as I realised I had an innate ability to connect with people, and that this gave me true fulfilment.

A Passion for Anxiety and Trauma with Individuals and Families

I have experience conducting assessments and evidence-based treatment for anxiety and trauma with a variety of age groups in both hospital and community health settings. I also enjoy teaching and have provided lectures in youth mental health for the Master of Brain and Mind Sciences at The University of Sydney.

I am grounded in the scientist-practitioner perspective and have contributed to research projects at The University of Sydney and Macquarie University, as well as published my Masters thesis in the journal Patient Education and Counselling.

I appreciate the importance of early intervention and accessible mental health care. As such, in addition to seeing clients at McKinnon Psychology, I also work at a youth non-for-profit organisation.

My Approach

I have a warm and genuine approach to therapy, balancing kindness, fairness and respect. I believe in empowering clients to make helpful choices and to be the agents of change in their own lives.
